The production of LNRS is led by the responsible body with support from the Defra family. However, it's recognised that the development and delivery of LNRS will require a significant input from those who work at the practitioner level i.e. eNGOs.
Key messages for Practitioners
This project was a test and trial which used a desk-based method approach to prioritise opportunities and provide direction. You need to be aware that the locations of opportunities have not been technically assessed and will require for further 'on-the-ground' investigation.

This project was a test and trial, and as such did not try to map all of the environmental needs for water. The project undertook a selection exercise through a workshop. This approach is recommended to be taken forward into application to reduce the number of datasets you would otherwise need to consider.
2
To consider water needs and opportunities, cross LNRS boundary thinking must be applied. There will likely need to be a recognition of what is included in neighbouring LNRSs to both meet 'your' LNRS needs and to allow others to meet theirs. Fostering early and continued engagement with other LNRS leads will be mutually beneficial.

When prioritising interventions the project had to set 'rules'. For example when prioritising in channel barriers for removal we priorities based on the length of river 'opened' in areas with a known presence of a brown trout. However we could have priorities in different ways like, for example, opening up back waters, or 'lowest cost', or avoiding stretches with invasive species.
