Why is the project relevant to you?

LNRS's are the governments primary mechanism for prioritising actions to achieve nature recovery in England. They cover both terrestrial and water habitats. This project trialled bringing a data driven element from a water perspective to sit alongside the expert contributions from that catchment partnerships and technical specialist.

Key messages for Others

Many LNRS's are going to be digitally mapping locations of environmental needs and opportunities. There may be opportunities (Licence permitting) of receiving datasets or derived maps that could be overlayed with your own maps.

This project has demonstrated that data driven analysis can provide a list of measures, however it is important to remember that this type of approach does not substitute the need for expert input from identified stakeholders/practitioners.

2

When prioritising interventions the project had to set 'rules'. For example when prioritising in channel barriers for removal we priorities based on the length of river 'opened' in areas with a known presence of a brown trout. However we could have priorities in different ways like, for example, opening up back waters, or 'lowest cost', or avoiding stretches with invasive species.
