As local nature recovery strategies become more established, you may start to see the preferred net gain options or offsetting opportunities being derived from this work. By being aware of the environmental priorities that your local environmental organisation are agreeing on, you will be able to tailor the environmental aspects of planning applications to support the drive to nature recovery in a tailored way.

Key messages for Developers & Infrastructure

Many LNRS's are going to be digitally mapping locations of environmental needs and opportunities. There may be opportunities (Licence permitting) of receiving datasets or derived maps that could be overlayed with your own maps.

As shown through LNRS's focus on nature based measures, there is a large appetite for 'green' solutions to help nature recover. These solutions can be effective across the various water disciplines, however you do not need to choose between green or nothing. Grey engineering solutions still have a place when considering environmental solutions.

Data driven opportunity mapping is a great starting point to identify the most appropriate or beneficial priority for each of your sites. It will then require experts to attend the site to determine if the desk based measures identified are feasible on the ground.
